Section 7A Down To Four

The Section 7A playoffs are down to just four teams left playing for a trip to the State Tournament.

The afternoon kicked off with Cherry taking on North Woods. North Woods secured their spot in the final four by toppling Cherry 65-47 behind Cole Martin’s 19 points and Jaylen Strong’s 18. Colton Herring had a team high 11 points for Cherry.

In the second game of the day, the Floodwood Polar Bears took on a conference foe, the Wrenshall Wrens, in a tightly contested game, which saw the Polar Bears squeak by the Wrens, 62-61. Ryder Lough led the way with 17 points, including 5 threes for the Polar Bears. Wrenshall was led by Jessie Ellerbe who tallied 21 points in the loss.

The North Woods Grizzlies and Floodwood Polars Bears will meet on March 4th with a 5:45pm tipoff at UM-Duluth’s Romano Gymnasium.

In the third game of the evening, it was the highly anticipated match-up between last years Section 7A champions, the Fond du Lac Ogichida, and the high score Lakeview Christian Academy Lions. The Ogichida would squeak out the victory, 93-91 to stay on track of defending their Section title. Bjorn Broman finished with 54 points in the loss, putting him at 2nd all time for scoring in Minnesota state basketball history. Fond du Lac was led by Dexter Delille who finished with 34 points, Justin Brown added 22. and Jordan Diver ended with 17.

In the final game of the night, the MIB Rangers and Ely Timberwolves faced off with the Rangers edging the Timberwolves 58-54 to advance in the playoffs. No stats were submitted for this game.

The Fond du Lac Ogichida and MIB Rangers will face off at 7:30pm on Wednesday night, at Romano Gymnasium at UM-Duluth.
