NSO – NEWS RELEASE

The University of Minnesota Duluth could not make a season sweep of Augustana (S.D.) College in their Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference/Sanford Health Tournament first round rematch on Wednesday evening, as the Vikings knocked off the Bulldogs 100-57 in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

UMD (12-15) closes the book on a season that fell short of team expectations but saw highlights, including the aforementioned 73-68 victory over Augustana earlier this season on Jan. 17, while the Vikings (21-9, R.V.) advance to Saturday’s quarterfinal rounds at the Sanford Pentagon in Sioux Falls.

HIGHLIGHTS
• Senior guards Jessica Newman (19) and Danielle Flood (15) led the way scoring for the Bulldogs, while sophomore center Allyson Harris earned a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds.
• Senior guard Shaunteva Ashley, held quiet last time out against the Bulldogs, scored 26 points on 12-of-17 shooting. Junior forward Nicole Kerkhoff and Logan O’Farrell tied for the team lead with seven rebounds.

Augustana shot the lights out of their home gym, shooting 56.7 percent on the night including 13-of-28 three-pointers to roll past UMD. The Bulldogs made 18 baskets on the night, with the trio of Flood, Harris, and Newman accounting for nearly all of it. The remainder of the UMD roster finished just 3-of-22 on the night (13.6 percent).  The Bulldog starters shot 32.0 percent with the bench accounting for five points and just one basket from the floor. The Vikings scored the first basket of the game and led the entire way, getting 34 points off their bench while exacting revenge for their prior meeting with UMD earlier this season.
