Bombers Open Playoffs with Win

The section 7AA top seeded Barnum Bombers opened play in the section tournament Wednesday night with a 73-37 win over the Aitkin Gobbles at Barnum High School.

The Bombers started fast Wednesday as Nathan Jelinick scored 9 of the Bombers first 14 points, as Barnum opened the game on a 14-0 run and then a 12-0 run after the Gobblers hit two shots to cut the lead to 14-4. Barnum cruised to a 37-16 lead at the half.

Brandon Newman who scored only 5 points in the first half kept the Bombers rolling as the scored 12 in the second half to finish with a game high 17.

Chris Carlson added 14 points, several which came off of turnovers he created with stellar defense and he also nailed down a couple long range bombs. Jelinick finished with the 13 all coming in the first half and Hunter Fetters chipped in with 11.

Nathan Davies led the Gobblers with 14 points in the loss Wednesday. The Gobblers season ends with a 6-21 record overall.

Barnum with the win moves to 26-1 on the season and they move on to the section quarterfinals Saturday night when they will face Pine City at Duluth Denfeld.
