John McKenna’s goal late in the first period would be all the Duluth Marshall Hilltoppers would need as the Toppers shut out Duluth Denfeld by a score of 4-0 in Saturday’s section 7A semifinal at Amzoil Arena in Duluth.

McKenna scored the games first goal at 16:05 of the first period and that would be all the scoring until the third period the Toppers would score three times in the third to pull away for the semi final victory.

Jon Hansen scored the Toppers second goal in the third period to make it 2-0, assist coming from McKenna and Jack Dodd.

Nathan Sepp scored off a set up from Nate Johnson to make it 3-0 at 12:47, and the Toppers sealed victory when Derek Farrell scored to make it 4-0.

Peter Lenz who assisted on the games first goal along with Alex Murray had the assists on the Lenz goal.

River Alander finished with 34 saves for the Hunters in the loss, while winning goaltender Alex Murray stopped all 24 shout he faced in the shutout won.

The Hilltoppers will face Hermantown in the section 7A final Wednesday night at Amzoil arena in Duluth.

The Hunters who shut out Eveleth-Gilbert 3-0 in the section quarterfinals finish the season with an overall record of 19-8.
