Rails Throttle North Branch

In the opening round of the Section 5A playoffs, the Proctor Rails hosted North Branch. The Rails would be victorious as they would topple the Vikings 10-0.

The Rails got out to a quick start, scoring 3 goals in the first period. Jon Aase kicked the scoring frenzy off at the 5 minute mark. Just 3 minutes later, Jordan Linder hit the back of the net to make it 2-0. Aase would then score his 2nd goal of the game at the 9:30 minute mark, making it 3-0 at the end of the 1st.

In the second period, the Rails would start right where they left off. Jake Malec made it 4-0 scoring near the 8 minute mark. Aase would tally his hat-trick midway through the 2nd period, making it 5-0. Linder found himself with his 2nd goal of the game at the 13 minute spot and Malec found the back of the net just a minute later to make it 7-0 after 2 periods.

In the 3rd period, Grant Morin would score twice, with one goal coming at the 7:30 minute and the other at the 8 minute mark to make it 9-0. Malec capped the night off with a hat-trick, scoring at the 12 minute mark, making it a final of 10-0.

North Branch keeper Donovan Steffan stopped 36 shots in the loss, while Proctors Tanner Haedrich blocked 6 in the shutout victory.The Rails are now 10-16 on the season and move onto the next round where they will face the Chisago Lakes Area Wildcats (8-15-2) on the road on February 19th.Tyler Peterson can be contacted at tpeterson@northlandsportsonline.com
