Newman – Wetterlind Nominated for POW

Barnum Bomber senior  Brandon Newman has been nominated as the Northstar Hoops Report Player of the week for the Week of 1-19-15 thru 1-26-15, as is Proctor’s Jordan Wetterlind.

Newman went over 2,000 career points on Monday in a big win against Hibbing during the Martin Luther King Show case Classic at UMD. Barnum, undefeated and ranked No. 2 in Class AA, defeated the Floodwood Polar Bears  (No. 8 in Class A) on Friday with the help of 27 points from their senior leader.

In Proctor’s only game this week, Jordan logged 28 points and 19 rebounds in a 64-51 win over Eveleth-Gilbert. He shot 9-of-9 from the free throw line and also grabbed 4 steals and 4 assists.

Wetterlind averages over 20 points per game and is shooting over .600 % from the floor.

Newman who is among the leaders locally in scoring , field goal percentage, three point shooting, assists, and dunks. Newman is nominated for the first time this season.

Cloquet’s Kassidy Steen was named the girls player of the week two weeks ago.
