Three Polar league standouts took part in the Boarder Battle All-Star Game which was sponsored by the Duluth Area Youth Basketball Association. The Minnesota stars struggled to match-up with the Wisconsin stars, after falling behind 47-35 at the half, they end up losing 105-62, in the first annual all-star game.

Close to 1000 people attended the first annual Border Battle pitting the best senior basketball players from Northeastern Minnesota against the best senior basketball players from North Central Wisconsin. Jim Schwarzbauer organizer of the event told NSO “Although the girl’s game was not close we were missing two key guards, Jes Vork from Cloquet and Sam Stanfield from Crosby-Ironton who both had prior commitments. With their quickness the game would have been more competitive. “

The Wisconsin girls used the advantage with pressure defense and forced several turnovers. Andrea Gould of Wrenshall told NSO “Our coach asked me to play guard and I said sure why not it could be fun.” Gould played outside with Shelby Goble of Bigfork where she nailed down several 3-pointers.

Gould led the Minnesota Stars with 13 points; Lisa Lymburner 12, Amber Dvorak 10, Shelby Goble 8, Marisa Yernatich 7, Roz Chromy and Jessica Cagle both had 6 in the defeat. Hilary Peterson, Emily Mehr, and Kaylee Steen did not score.

Katy Wrobel led all scorers with 26 points, Connie Urmanski and Courtney Doucette both had 14 points, Sam Hoyt & Laura Peterson each added 13, Samantha Price 9, Brittney Gregorich and Taylor Luke both scored 5 points, Anne Cole 3, Kara Poirier 2, and Kasey Larson 1.
