Hermantown Wins In Boys And Girls

The Hermantown Hawks had a double header with the Duluth Marshall Hilltoppers. The girls team hosted the Hilltoppers and beat them 51-27, while the boys team went on the road to topple the Hilltoppers, 99-44.

In the girls game, the Hawks led the Hilltoppers 21-11 at the half. The Hawks turned it up a little in the second half, outscoring Duluth Marshall 30-16 to get the victory.

The Hawks were led by a balanced scoring attack, with Mariah Ruhanen having a team high 11 points. Shania Bolen followed with 10, Kianna Hren scored 8, Taylor Vold pitched in 6, Laura Lenard added 4, Ellie Gamradt scored 3, Seirra Bolen pitched in 2, and Taylor Schmidt topped it off with 1.

In the loss for the Hilltoppers, Rachel DeWitt tallied 9, followed by Hannah Matthews with 7, Anna Eyers with 6, Lucy Philibin pitching in 4, and Kate Kleinschmidt with 1 to round it out.

The Lady Hawks improve their record to 2-3 and will travel to play North Branch on Saturday, December 13th with a tip off at 1:30 pm. The Hilltoppers fall to 2-2 on the season and will look to bounce back against Carlton on December 16th.

In boys action, the Hermantown Hawks found themselves up 53-26 at the half. They would continue their dominance in the second half, outscoring the Hilltoppers 46-18 to secure the 99-44 victory.

The Hawks had 14 players score in the game. They were led by Kole Zuidmilder who had a team high 20 points. Thomas Madison wasn’t far behind, scoring 18. Zack Brendon also hit double figures in the game, added 13 in the victory. Also scoring for the Hawks was Sam Stayanoff, Daniel Hedstrom, and Cody McSame who all scored 8, Christian Comstock who added 6, Nate Soumis who pitched in 4, Nick Bostrom, Jordan Senegal, and David Birkeland all added 3, Parker Bjorlin and Isaac Hiner scored 2, and Caleb Steinert topped it off with 1.

Duluth Marshall’s Cole Bradshaw had a game high 23 points, followed by Cole Periancek who had 14, Jeremy Stephan who had 3, and Kevin Snyder and Jack Schenk who each had 2.

The Hawks improve their record to 4-1 and will travel to play North Branch on December 13th with a tip off of 3:00 pm. The Hilltoppers fall to 0-6 on the year and will look for their first win on December 13th when they welcome Mounds Park Academy to town.
