Denfeld Skates Past Virginia-MIB

Nick Thompson and Jake DeCaro scored third-period power-play goals as Duluth Denfeld rallied to defeat Virginia/Mt. Iron-Buhl 2-1 in a nonconference high school boys hockey game Tuesday night at Duluth Heritage Sports Center.

The Hunters, who improved to 4-1 overall, out-shot the Blue Devils 46-12. Virginia/Mt. Iron-Buhl goaltender Lucas Murray finished with 42 saves, including 34 in the final two periods.

Ian Blaeser scored for the Blue Devils, who fell to 1-3 overall.

Westley Cook had 11 saves for Duluth Denfeld, which plays host to Hermantown in a Lake Superior Conference game at 8 p.m. Thursday at Duluth Heritage Sports Center.
