The Cloquet-Esko-Carlton girls hockey team met up with Benilde St. Margaret on Saturday afternoon and in what on paper might have been a game where most would think the Red Knights would have the edge, but the Lumberjacks used balanced play timely scoring and great defensive play to skate to an 2-2 overtime tie at Northwoods Credit Union Arena.

The Lumberjacks scored first Saturday when it was Rachel Macaulay scoring on an assist from Mikayla Baker and Courtney Ketola, as the Lumberjacks went ahead 1-0 as they scored on the power play. Benilde tied the game 21 seconds later to send the game into the third period tied again at 1-1.

The Third period saw the Lumberjacks jump out front again when the Lumberjacks scored their second power play goal of the game when Makayla Langenbrunner scored  a slap shot from just inside the blueline with an assist to Baker. The Red Knights tied the game four minutes later which forced the game into overtime.

The Lumberjacks had some great chances in overtime but net minder Anna DeGuilo came up big for the Red Knights. The Lumberjacks out shot the Red Knights by a 21-19 margin, Stacey Nelson and Sydnee Heitala combined for the shut out for the Lumberjacks
