The Cloquet boys basketball team picked up their second win to start this 2014 – 2015 season Tuesday night as the Lumberjacks beat the Broncos 70-58 at International Falls High School.

The Lumberjacks picked up their second road win of the season as senior Zach Gerlach pounded in 23 points on the night to lead all scorers as he went 10-17 from the field including two 3-pointers. The Lumberjacks who hit five first half three pointers led at halftime 34-30 at the break.

Cloquet which shot only 34% from the floor in the first half saw their shooting percentage increase in the second half as they connected on 60% from the floor as the Lumberjacks went on to the twelve point victory. The Broncos did make a run at the Jacks in the second half but Cloquet withstood the charge as they improve to 2-0 and will host Grand Rapids next Thursday in their home opener.

Mason Brenner added 17 points in the Lumberjack victory while Nate Weets chipped in with 15 points, Gavin Takkunen added 7 points, while Jerome Defoe 3, Rand Bieri and Brady Obeidizinski added 2 points, and it was Brandon Conklin finishing with 1 point for Cloquet.

The Broncos were led by Ben Humbert who had 21 points, he also had 14 rebounds for International Falls.  Clay Tomczak added 16, and Clay Bartkowski ended with 9 for the Broncos.
