Jacks Boys Stop Hibbing

Nate Weets, Mason Brenner, and Zach Gerlach all scored in double figures as the Cloquet boys basketball team opened their 2014-2015 season with a 69-54 victory over Hibbing Saturday night at Hibbing High School.

Weets had a game high 18 points and connected on two three-pointers as the Jacks begin their quest to repeat as section 7AAA Champions. Brenner also hit two 3-pointers as he finished with 17 points, and Gerlach hit the Lumberjacks other three-pointer on the night.

Cloquet who led by two points at 35-33 at halftime and extended their lead in the second half as they pick up a 15 point win. Cloquet shot 60.5 % from the floor. Cloquet also out rebounded the Blue Jackets and the were dominant in the paint out scoring Hibbing 40-14 in the paint.

Gavin Takkunen finished with 8 points for Cloquet, and he was followed by Brady Obeidzinski who had 7, and Brandon Conklin rounded out the Lumberjack scoring with 4 points. Corey Nelson and Andy Kolden finished with 16 points each for Hibbing n the loss.

Cloquet will be on the road Tuesday night when they will travel to International Falls to take on the Broncos in a non conference match-up.
