A fast start Saturday afternoon proved to much for the lumberjacks to overcome as Sartell-Sauk Rapids knocked off the Lumberjacks by a score of 5-3 to keep the Lumberjacks win less on the season. The Lumberjacks spotted the Spartans three goals in the first period and were never able to over come that lead.

The Lumberjacks did create a momentum switch in the second period when the Jacks cut the lead to 3-2 following two Lumberjack goals. Keagen Anderson intercepted a Spartan pass took it 3/4 of the length of the ice, split two defenders and beat net minder Claire Minnerath to cut the lead to 3-1.

Rachel Macaulay found the net on a Lumberjack power play when a CJ Stoyanoff shot was stopped and Macaulay hammered home the rebound to make it 3-2 in favor of the Spartans. Makayla Langenbrunner added the other assist for the Lumberjacks.

With the Lumberjacks scoring two quick goal and the momentum in their favor a penalty on Cloquet-Esko-Carlton gave the Spartans a chance to take a two goal lead which they did just 17 seconds into the power play the Spartans again made it a two goal contest as the second period ended with a two goal lead for the Spartans.

Sartell-Sauk Rapids made it a three goal difference late in the third period when a shot was deflected high in the air and fell behind the Lumberjack net minder for the Spartans fifth goal of the game. Kayla Baker cut the lead down to two with a goal with only 36 second remaining but the Lumberjacks could not get any closer as the Spartans won the road game.

The Lumberjacks fall to 0-4-1 on the season and they will travel to Grand Rapids on Tuesday night to face the Lighting of Grand Rapids-Greenway.
