DOGS FALL 2-0 TO WINONA IN CONFERENCE SEMIS

The University of Minnesota Duluth couldn’t capitalize on a second chance against longtime Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference rival Winona State University, falling 2-0 in the semifinal round of the NSIC/U.S. Bank Postseason Tournament on Friday morning in Mankato, Minnesota.

Winona State (15-4-1) got a pair of goals from junior midfielder Kati Baker to edge UMD (9-10-1) and close out the Bulldogs’ season.

HIGHLIGHT
Marissa Rosa stopped a pair of balls for UMD as UMD’s defense held Winona State to just four shots on goal on 13 attempts. Megan Helberg led the Bulldogs with two shots, one on goal, as Winona State’s defense held UMD to just five shots in the game.

Baker put the Warriors up early, just over two minutes after the 11:00 a.m. kickoff, with her second goal of the season, assisted by senior forwad Alaina Kne. Winona State would again threaten late in the first half but Rosa made a late save to maintain the 1-0 score into the break. The game seemed destined for the fifth 1-0 score of the tournament when Baker once again broke through in the 85th minute to put the game on ice for Winona State. After not scoring a single goal in the regular season, Baker has scored all three goals for the Warriors in the postseason.
