The South Ridge seniors Mikayla Olesiak and Justice Janke are no strangers when it comes to defense. Both players have been starting on the Varsity since 8th grade, and Janke joined Olesiak in the 1000 dig club last night in Grand Rapids.

Mikayla Olesiak started her career as a libero in 8th & 9th grades, totaling 198 and 275 digs. The next two years as a full rotation outside hitter, she added 194 and 269. This year she moved to the position of setter and hit 1000 digs in the Virginia tournament versus the Holy Angels school. She is currently at 1084 and counting. Mikayla is already at a whopping 680 set assists her very first year as starting setter.

Justice Janke started her career playing outside hitter in 8th & 9th grades, totaling 73 and 176 digs. Her Sophomore year she switched to full rotation middle hitter accumulating 191 and 293 more. This year she surpassed the 1000 mark last night vs. Northeast Range with a current total of 1007. Ironically, she had her 1000th kill earlier in the season at Northeast Range.

We look forward to watching them achieve more as they go for the the South Ridge School’s first ever Section Championship on Saturday at Denfeld, where they take on the Carlton Bulldogs. Game time is 4:00 p.m.
