Rebels Back in Section Finals

The Moose Lake Willow River Rebels defeated the Eveleth Gilbert Golden Bears 44-21 to advance to the 7AA section final. The Rebels will face Crosby Ironton for the championship after their win over Mesabi East 58-18.

The Rebels scored first with a 23 yd run by Thomas Hanson to make it 6-0 after a failed extra point. Later in the first quarter Bryceton Butkiewicz made it a 14-0 with a touchdown and a 2 pt conversion. The only score in the 2nd quarter came from a 15 yd pass from Brad Fossum to Charlie Adamczak. Thomas Hanson added a 2 pt run to make the half time score 22-0.

MLWR continued their success with a 2 yd run by Butkiewicz. The conversion was no good as the Rebels led 28-0 early in the 3rd quarter. Eveleth Gilbert got on the scoreboard later in the quarter with a 3 yd td run and with a kick conversion made it 28-7 after 3 quarters.

Butkiewicz completed a great night with a 3rd touchdown to start the 4th racing 39 yards and with a Moonen 2 pt run it was 36-7. The Golden Bears weren’t done as Sam Roberts scored on a 52 yd run and with an extra pt it was 36-14.

Brad Fossum had a pick 6 with a Moonen 2 pt run it was 44-14. Roberts finished the scoring with a 13 yd run with a good kick made the final 44-21.

Moose Lake Willow River plays Crosby Ironton at Public School Stadium at 7 pm on Oct. 30 th for the 7 AA championship.
