Top Seeds Advance in 7AA

The top seeded Cloquet Lumberjacks won their opening round match-up against Duluth Marshall in the section 7AA playoffs. The Lumberjacks the top seed in section 7AA sub section 1 swept the Toppers by scores of 25-13, 25-9, and 25-21 to advance into the quarterfinals. Alex Oakes led the Lumberjacks with 21 set assists, 6 kills and 9 digs. The Toppers Kate Kleinschmidt had 10 kills and 11 digs for Marshall.

The Lumberjacks will move on to face Esko who need five sets to beat the Aitkin Gobblers Wednesday night in Esko. The Eskomos won the first two sets 25-23 and 25-16, it was Aitkin who came back strong winning the next two by identical 25-16 scores. With the match tied at two sets apiece the final set of the match was a back and forth battle but in the end it was the Eskomos winning 16-14 to with the match and advance to meet Cloquet Friday night in Cloquet. Molly Trapp finished with 17 kills and 14 blocks for the Eskomos and Gianna Jubie had 34 set assists. The Eskomos will face Cloquet Friday night in Cloquet.

The second seeded Mora Mustangs advanced in sub section 1 playoffs as they beat Pine City in three straight sets 25-8, 25-4, and 25-8 as with that victory the Mustangs move on to face the Moose Lake-Willow River Rebels who swept the Rangers of Crosby-Ironton 25-13, 25-21, 25-24.  Karina Cisar had 9 kills and Lauren Ross was perfect serving to help lead the Rebels.

Sub Section 2 of the 7AA playoffs saw the top four seeds all advance Wednesday night, it was Greenway the number one seed defeating Two Harbors in three straight sets. Hermantown also won in three straight as the Hawks were led by Cassidy Kaneski who ended with 17 set assists and 13 digs, while Jordyn closed with 18 set assists. Krista Mottonen had 7 kills and 26 digs for the Rails.

The other two opening round match-ups saw International Falls stopping Hibbing also in three straight sets and the number two seeded Virginia Blue Devils swept the Golden Bears as they will now host Hermantown on Friday night in sectional play.
