Duluth Easts Season Ends

The Duluth East Greyhounds traveled to take on the St. Francis Saints on Tuesday, falling 56-6 in the 7AAAAA first round matchup.

St. Francis got out to a hot start in the 1st quarter, going up 14-0 early from a 2 yard plunge by Hunter Trautman and a 15 yard pass to Blake Moreno from Trautman. In the 2nd quarter, Matt Wunderlich recovered a blocked punt 17 yards for the Saints, increasing the lead to 21-0. The defense would stay strong for St. Francis when Tristen Goltz returned an interception 28 yards to give the Saints the 28-0 lead. Duluth East would get on the board before half when Jack Rashid found Ethan Clay from 10 yards out to cut the Saints lead down to 28-6.

In the 2nd half, it would continue to be all Saints as Max Greene started the 3rd quarter scoring off by rushing 56 yards to the end zone, increasing the lead to 35-6. St. Francis scored again when Trautman connected with Moreno for the 2nd time on the night, this time from 60 yards, pushing the Saints lead up to 42-6. Timmy Wetenkamp got into the end zone before the 4th quarter on a 3 yard scamper, putting the saints up 48-6. The Saints would score once more when Tommy Scheiger ran 11 yards to the end zone to give the Saints the 56-6 victory.

Duluth East ends their season with a disappointing 1-8 record. St. Francis advances to the semi-finals to play Brainerd.
