State Soccer Pairings Set

The Minnesota State High School League have set the pairings as the 2104 State Soccer Tournament begins next Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursday at various sites around the state of Minnesota.

IN Class AA Girls Soccer the defending state champion Minnetonka Skippers fell in the Section 6AA semi-finals to Wayzata which means a new girls AA champion this fall.

Quarterfinal action will kick off in two locations as the top seeded team Eagan will face Hopkins, and the second contest at Cottage Grove will match up will have the 4 seed Centennial taking on the 5 seeded Cretin-Derham Hall. The two other quarterfinal matches will have the number 2 seed Lakeville North meet St. Michael Albertville, and the second game Wednesday night will have the 3 seeded Eden Prairie facing Anoka, with but being held in St. Cloud.

Quarterfinal action in Class A will feature 8 teams looking to be crowned State Champion as two time defending champion Benilde-St. Margret fell in the section 6A Championship by a score of 2-1 in a shoot-out.  The Top Seed Minneapolis Washburn will take on Sartell-St. Stephan and that winner will face the winner of the 4 seed Princeton Tigers who will meet Hill-Murray. Orono who earned the 2 seed will face Dover-Eyota, and the last quarterfinal will have the 3 seed Park Center meet up with Albert Lea.

The Boys State Soccer Tournament will see two defending champions return to the state tournament to defend their titles, Wayzata will be back to defend their Class AA title, while St. Paul Como Park is back to defend their Class A Title.

Class AA will see the defending champs listed as the 4 seed and they will match-up with Rochester John Marshall in the quarterfinals, and that winner will meet the winner of this years top seed Eastview and the section 7AA Champion Duluth East Greyhounds. The other half of the AA bracket will have the 2 seed Rosemount meeting up with Maple Grove, and that winner will face either the 3 seed Minnetonka and Anoka.

Class A defending champion St. Paul Como Park is also the 4 seed and they open up with the 5 seed Chaska. This winner will meet either the top seeded DeLasalle or Mahtomedi. St. Cloud Apollo is the number 2 seed and they will meet 3-time state champion Rochester Lourdes and the last quarterfinal will feature Mankato West and Monticello.

The State semi-finals, and Finals in both the boys and girls state tournaments will all be played in St. Cloud at St. Cloud State University on Wednesday October  29th and Thursday October 30th.
