Oshkosh 4, Superior 0

Heading into Saturday’s WIAC matchup with UW-Oshkosh, the UW-Superior women’s soccer team knew they would be facing a tough challenge in the Titans.

Unfortunately for the Yellowjackets, UW-Oshkosh proved too tough on this occasion, scoring three times in the opening 21 minutes on the way to posting a 4-0 victory over UW-Superior at the NBC Spartan Sports Complex.

The victory was the third straight for UW-Oshkosh, which improved to 6-3-1 overall and 2-0 in league action for the season.  UW-Superior meanwhile fell to 3-8-1 overall and 0-3 in WIAC play.

UW-Oshkosh got off to a fast start in the opening 10 minutes, taking a 1-0 lead at 6:29 when Rachel Elliot scored off a through-ball from teammate Nikki Mann with 38:31 remaining in the opening half.

The Titans doubled their advantage 8:05 later when Kali Jahn converted from the penalty spot at 14:34 for a 2-0 UW-Oshkosh advantage.

Rachel Elliot’s second tally of the contest at 21:52 made it 3-0 heading into halftime before Robyn Elliot closed out the scoring at 54:43 for a 4-0 final.

For the game, UW-Oshkosh held a 23-4 edge in total shots, including a 9-2 advantage in shots on goal.

Shelby Coombs (Anaheim, Calif./Magnolia ) had three shots for UW-Superior while Bailey Henderson (Oakdale, Minn./North St. Paul) had five saves in goal for the Yellowjackets.

Rachel Elliot notched a game-high four shots for the Titans as net minder Nina Muzi made one save before being replaced by Angela Christensen in the second half.

The Yellowjackets hit the road to face UW-Stout on Friday.  Opening kick against the Blue Devils is scheduled for 8 p.m.
