Locals Compete At Ely Nordic Invite

The Cloquet-Esko-Carlton, and Proctor-Hermantown’s Boys and Girls Nordic Ski team competed in the Ely Timberwolves invite Friday at Snowflake Hidden Valley Nordic Center in Ely. The Timberwolves invite featured 283 skiers that represented 12 high schools in both high school and junior high school divisions.


Ely won the girls team meet with 386 total points, Duluth East placed second, Anoka was third, followed by Marshall and Two Harbors for fourth and fifth places. Cloquet-Esko-Carlton placed seventh overall, while Proctor-Hermantown did not have enough qualifying skiers for the team totals.


Amy Bianko of Ely was the individual winner in the Classic 5.1 kilometer race. Bianko’s time for the race was 19:12.10. Ely teammate Amy Haag was second, Duluth East skiers Carolyn Lucca and Katie Allen were fourth and fifth and rounding out the top five was Meghan Coughlan from Duluth Marshall.


CEC Skiers Molly Meysembourg finished 20th overall. Korbyn Danielson was 28th, Kelsey Mudek was 33rd, and Elly Siptroth came in 37th to round out the CEC skiers. Proctor-Hermantown did not have any skiers in the Varsity race.


The Boys Team Champions were the Ely Timberwolves, who finished with 387 points, Anoka finished second with 354 points, Mesabi East-Virginia-Eveleth-Gilbert was third, Duluth East placed fourth, and Marshall was fifth. CEC and Proctor-Hermantown did not have enough varsity qualifiers for a team total.


Ely would take the top three sports in the individual competition as Jake Dalberg took first place with a time of 16:53. Issac Olson was second, Drew Gustafson was third, Chris Hecker of Anoka was fourth, and Geoff Ash from Duluth East was 5th.


Other skiers for CEC and Proctor-Hermantown included, Gavin Johnson from Proctor-Hermantown who placed 20th overall, Duncan Fox of CEC was 24th, Dain Brademan of CEC was 36th overall, Parker Goessling finished in 37th, and Matt Rengo did not start the race.
