NSO – NEWS RELEASE

Augustana 6, Superior 0

Facing off against a highly-skilled Augustana squad on Sunday afternoon, the UW-Superior women’s soccer team knew defense would be a key facet of the game.

Despite a strong defensive effort in the first half, the Vikings proved too tough, scoring five times in the after halftime on the way to posting a 6-0 shutout of UW-Superior.

The Yellowjackets (3-6-1) managed to stay close through the opening 20 minutes, surrendering only Jessica Kras’ tally at 6:01 to trail 1-0 at the intermission.

Augustana (7-2) began to pull away in the second half however, doubling their lead at 45:12 when Kelly Farrell scored unassisted for a 2-0 Vikings advantage.

Somer Druszkowski and Caitlan Lange scored at 69:13 and 77:44 to make it 4-0 before Taylor Navarro added two more tallies at 89:00 and 89:55 to make the final 6-0.

Bailey Henderson (Oakdale, Minn./North St. Paul) made 17 saves for the Yellowjackets to take the loss in goal.

Farrell racked up a game-high nine shots for Augustana while Meredith Chew picked up the victory in the net for the Vikings.

UW-Superior returns home to host UW-Eau Claire on Wednesday.  Opening kick at Yellowjacket Field is scheduled for 4 p.m
