UWS Women fall to Platteville

Having extended their unbeaten streak to four consecutive games earlier in the week, the UW-Superior women’s soccer team entered their WIAC Conference opener on Saturday against full of confidence.

Unfortunately for the Yellowjackets, the UW-Platteville Pioneers took control in the second half and never looked back, scoring three times after halftime on the way to a 4-0 win.

For the game, UW-Platteville held a 27-3 edge in total shots, including 13-2 in shots on goal while upping their overall record to 6-4.  The Yellowjackets dropped to 3-5-1 on the season with the loss.

The Pioneers took an early lead in the first half when Yamilex Jaramillo scored her second goal of the season on a feed from Bianca Mahoney at 13:07, giving UW-Platteville a 1-0 lead that would last through halftime.

In the second half, a tally by Betty Rodriguez at 58:39 from Jaramillo made it 2-0 before two straight goals from Ellie Peterson at 66:55 and 75:31 closed out the scoring in the 4-0 final.

UW-Superior was led offensively by freshman Katrina Gephart (Roseville, Minn./Roseville Area) with two shots.  

 

 

 

Bailey Henderson (Oakdale, Minn./North St. Paul) took the loss in goal for the Yellowjackets with eight stops.

 

 

The Pioneers were paced by Jaramillo with a game-high seven shots. Rodriguez and Peterson each had three more shots for UW-Platteville while Mandy Taylor picked up the win with two saves in the nets for the Pioneers.

The Yellowjackets return to the pitch Sunday as they travel to Rock Island, Illinois for a match with Augustana College. Game time is scheduled for 11:00 a.m.
