NSO – NEWS RELEASE

DULUTH, Minn. – The St. Scholastica men’s soccer team started off the two game weekend with a commanding 13-0 win over conference opponent Bethany Lutheran at Saints Field Friday afternoon.

The Saints are now 4-0 in conference play after the win Friday against the Vikings. The first goal of the game came at around the 18 minute mark when St. Scholastica’s Tom Corcoran (Warrington, England/Great Sankey HS, Priestley College) rocketed one to the back of the net, which marked his eighth goal on the season. He would make it nine goals later in the game. The next two goals came off the foot of junior Sean Morgan (Belfast, Ireland/St. Patrick’s Grammar School), two minutes apart from each other. Andrew Jenkings and Kyle Farrar (Sevenoaks, England/Kelsey Park Sports College) chipped in two more goals together to extend the lead to 5-0 at the half.

The Saints picked up in the second half right where they left off in the first with Andrew Xotta-Dickson (Adelaide, South Australia/Prince Alfred College (Anoka Ramsey CC)) scoring in the second minute. The Saints’ seventh goal of the game came off the foot of a Viking to help pad the lead. After the own goal, Bethany Lutheran seemed to have ran out of gas as the Saints kept the ball in the Vikings’ half of the field for a vast majority of the remainder of the game. The Saints showed off an excellent passing display as they picked the Vikings defense apart in the last part of the second half. They ended up tacking on six more goals after the own goal, ending the game with a 13-0 victory. The last six goals of the game were scored by Kyle Farrar (Sevenoaks, England/Kelsey Park Sports College), Tom Corcoran (Warrington, England/Great Sankey HS, Priestley College), Ben Phillips (Warrington, England/Lymm HS), Logan Tamke (Ashland, Wis./Ashland HS), Andrew Jenkings, and Ben Cullen (Clough, Northern Ireland/Shimna Integrated College). With those two goals, Ben Phillips (Warrington, England/Lymm HS) and Ben Cullen (Clough, Northern Ireland/Shimna Integrated College) both recorded their first collegiate goals.

The hat trick seemed to be elusive, however, as the Saints had four people score two goals in the game. Saints goalie Jacob Ballheimer (Gerrards Cross, England/Chalfonts Community College) didn’t see much action with only one shot being fired his way, but still ended up with a save for the game and another shutout on the year.

Bethany Lutheran’s sole shot in the game came from Jacob Friendt. Viking goal keepers recorded a total of nine saves throughout the game. Matt Bitter would be responsible for eight of those saves, while also giving up five goals in the first half. Nicholas Bera took over between the goal posts in the second half and recorded one save, but allowed eight goals to get by.

CSS will look to keep their perfect UMAC record alive tomorrow afternoon as they take on Crown College on the Saints Field here in Duluth at 2:15 p.m. The matchup will likely be a good one, as Crown is also undefeated in the conference and have a 3-2-2 record on the year.
