Wilderness Win Home Opener

The Minnesota Wilderness opened their home season Friday night with a 4-3 victory over last years NAHL Champion the Fairbanks Ice Dogs.

Jack Forbert scored at the 8:18 mark of the third period to put the Wilderness in front 4-3 Friday night just ten seconds after Fairbanks had ties the score at 3-3, and that proved to be the game winner for the Wilderness who moved to 4-1 with Friday’s victory.

Robb Stautz ans Michael Covach scored first period goals to put the Wilderness in front 2-0 after one period of play, Fairbanks responded scoring the first two goals of the second period to the the game at 2-2.

Jesse Norling put the Wilderness in front 3-2 with two minutes to play in the second period.

Brock Kautz was the winning net-minder Friday as he stopped 16 shots on goal, the Wilderness out-shot the Ice Dogs 32-19 on the night. Stautz goal to start the game was a power play goal, and the Wilderness finished 1-4 on the power play.
