Floodwood Stops Bulldogs

The Floodwood Polar Bears shut down the Carlton Bulldogs on Friday night, winning 27-0.

The Bulldogs got out to a quick start, marching down the field to only have it halted on a 4th & short play with a questionable spot by the line judge. The Polar Bears would take advantage of that, with Riley Bernsdorf connecting with Willow Christenson from 35 yards out to give the Polar Bears the 6-0 lead going into the 2nd quarter.

The Bulldogs would be forced to punt on their next possession. Thats when Floodwood’s Willow Christenson showed his speed, returning the punt 71 yards to increase the Polar Bears lead. Jonah Schnortz punched in the 2 point conversion after taking a big hit to give the Polar Bears the 14-0 advantage. The Bulldogs wouldn’t be able to get anything going on offense on their next possession. Backup QB, Tanner Heggedahl had to come into the game to relieve Bernsdorf after a knee injury, and he wouldn’t lose a step for the Floodwood offense, connecting with Anthony Chiles from 7 yards out. Ricky Baker converted the PAT and the Polar Bears went up 21-0. Bernsdorf would return to the game and would connect with Christenson once again, this time into tough coverage on a 19 yard pass, to give the Polar Bears the 27-0 lead and victory.

The Bulldogs played stout defense throughout the second half, wrapping up tacklers and making big hits on Polar Bear runners, but it wouldn’t be enough as they fall to 0-5 on the season. They will play at home against the Wrenshall Wrens on October 3rd. The Polar Bears improve to 3-2 on the year and will travel to McGregor on October 3rd.
