NSO – NEWS RELEASE

Following a selection to the Colorado Premier Challenge All-Tournament Team and a Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) Offensive Player of the Week selection, University of Minnesota Duluth junior middle blocker Monica Turner was named the Sports Imports/American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA)’s NCAA II National Player of the Week.

Turner led the Bulldogs with 50 kills on the weekend with just seven attack errors on 84 swings, good for a .512 hitting percentage.  Turner hit .750 (12-0-19) in the Bulldogs’ win over Metro State.  She averaged 3.85 kills per-set on the weekend, including 19 against No. 2 Tampa.  She also added 11 blocks, one solo, to lead UMD at the net.

This is the 12th time a Bulldog has garnered Sports Imports/AVCA Player of the Week honors, with the previous winner coming from Kate Lange on November 19, 2013. UMD takes on St. Cloud State University to open the NSIC season this evening at 7:00 p.m. in St. Cloud.
