In celebrating the 20th anniversary of University of Minnesota Duluth soccer and Alumnae Day at Malosky Stadium, the Bulldogs opened their home season with a 3-0 victory over Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) rival St. Cloud State University on Sunday afternoon.

UMD (1-3-0, 1-0-0 NSIC) scored three first-half goals to knock down the Huskies (1-3-0, 0-1-0 NSIC) in both teams’ conference lid-lifter. Bulldog alumnae spanning two decades of UMD soccer were honored at halftime, along with 20-year Bulldog head coach Greg Cane.

HIGHLIGHTS
• Senior forward Maureen Stormont continued her offensive roll, netting a pair of goals as a follow-up to her first of the season on Friday afternoon.
• Senior midfielder Jennifer Smith had 10 shots on the game, and found her name on the scoresheet twice for assists. She has now moved into a sixth-place tie with UMD Athletic Hall of Famer (and current assistant coach) Jen Warrick Reierson for the most assists in a Bulldog career.
• Senior goalkeeper Marissa Rosa notched her first victory of the season along with 11th career shutout with four saves.

The Bulldogs wasted little time getting on the board as Maureen Stormont scored in the second minute, a heel-kick deflection of a Sheridan Reiners (Jr./F) shot with a second assist going to Smith. The Bulldogs kept the pressure on early, holding St. Cloud State to just four shots in the first half while collecting 20 of the own in the opening frame. Stormont continued her day with another goal just before the 19-minute mark, a chipped ball to the upper left corner off another pass from Smith. Later in the period, senior defender Riley Allen would get on the board with her first of hte season, heading a Hannah Keil corner kick over the outstretched arms of SCSU sophomore goalkeeper Brittany Plonbom.

Plonbom would stop 12 shots on the day as UMD peppered 31 shots, including 15 on-net. Bulldog keeper Rosa stopped four balls and had a number cleared out by her defense as UMD allowed just four of the Huskies’ 13 shots to connect on-target. Senior forward Taige Thoreson had four shots to lead St. Cloud. In addition to the offensive output of Stormont and Smith, the Bulldogs got four shots from both Reiners and sophomore reserve forward Kailey Beatt. Reiners’ four shots were all on target, while Beatt put a pair on net.
