The Marshall Hilltoppers coming off a successful season a year ago were hoping to have big numbers when this season started, but a rebuilding mode for head coach Jim Hogan and his staff.
Hogan told Northland Sports Online that “every game is a battle and we need to give it our all each and every play.” Hogan praised how hard his team worked Friday afternoon as the Hilltoppers fell to the Golden Bears 14-12.
“We fought hard, we had chances but in the end we came up short.” Hogan gave a lot of credit to Eveleth-Gilbert mentioning “they are a good team they play hard and they have a dynamic player in Sam Roberts.”
Two missed conversions proved to be the difference in the contest for Marshall, a missed extra point following a 58 yard touchdown run from Jeremy Stephan and a missed two point conversion following an 18 yard Cullen Mudrak touchdown run in the fourth quarter.
The Hilltoppers fall to 2-1 and they will play in Esko next Friday night in a conference battle.
