Golden Bears Shut-out Jacks

It was quite an eye-opening moment for the Cloquet-Esko-Carlton girls tennis team on Thursday when they fell 7-0 to the Eveleth-Gilbert Golden Bears.

The Golden Bears started things off quickly when Cora Delich took her #1 singles match 6-0, 6-1 over CEC’s Rose Lundquist. At #2 singles CEC’s Kali Kadelbach fell 6-0, 6-0 to Audrey Delich.

CEC’s McKenzie Ketola had a strong first game at #3 singles when she dropped a 7-5 decision to Maddi Jankila, but Jankila turned things up a notch in the second set and went on to a 6-1 win.

Lindsey Lamirande had a strong match at #4 singles, but ended up losing 6-4, 6-2 to Celine Saari.

Doubles play was more of the same for CEC. At #1 doubles the CEC team of Abbey Wangen and Courtney Ketola dropped a 6-2, 6-0 match to Katelyn Rice and Kourtney Rosati. At #2 doubles the CEC duo of Lexi Robideaux and Hailey Martin fell 6-1, 6-1 to Amy Licari and Kitan Honkola.

E-G wrapped up their shutout win by taking a 6-2, 6-2 victory at #3 doubles when Anna Melicher and Megan Larson downed the CEC team of Annika Hammitt and Maddie Harkins.
