The Barnum Bombers couldn’t hang on to the lead in Friday’s football matchup against Rush City in Barnum.  The Bombers led at the half, but the Tigers rallied for a pair of third quarter scores and eventually were able to secure a 20-16 road victory.
Tyler Oscarson got the Tigers on the board first with a seven-yard touchdown run in the first quarter, but the Tigers were unable to convert the extra point run and they led it 6-0.
Barnum bounced back with a three-yard touchdown run by Mitchel Weller in the second quarter and then they added a Chris Carlson two-point conversion run to slip ahead 8-6 at halftime.
Barnum also had to play without Senior quarterback Brandon Newman who was hurt early in the second quarter, and “with Brandon getting hurt it changed the dynamic of the game” Head Coach Brian Robertson told Northland Sports Online. “Having three turnovers and giving them a short field really hurt us, and we gave up to many big plays that cost us.”
Rush City managed to get back-to-back scores from Adam Hendrick and Eric Erdman in the third quarter to push the lead to 20-8.  Hendrick scored from two yards out and Erdman nabbed a 27 yard pass from Oscarson.  Spencer Warner tacked on a two-point conversion run after Hendick’s score giving the Tigers a 14-point lead.
Carlson pulled the Bombers to within 20-14 when he scored in the fourth quarter on an 11 yard run, and after Weller caught the two-point conversion pass from Carlson the Bombers were within 20-16.  Unfortunately for Barnum that was all the closer they would get, as the Bombers last drive stalled in Rush City territory, and the Tigers slipped out of Barnum with the road win in the season opener for both teams.
