East Sweeps Viking Challenge

The Duluth East Greyhound boys and girls cross country teams swept the Viking Challenge that was hosted in Grand Marais on Thursday afternoon.

The boys team took first place overall with a score of 19. The Proctor Rails followed in 2nd place with an overall score of 54. Individually, the Duluth East boys placed in 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 5th. Taking first place was Keaton Long finishing in 17:30. Teammates Kendall Hill and Jonathan Laughlin finished in 17:45 and 17:46 respectively. Jackson Churchill took 5th with a time of 18:20. Proctor’s Jacob Welch finished in 4th place running the course in 18:00.

In the girls meet, the Greyhound won with a score of 29. Proctor took 2nd, scoring 66, and South Ridge finished 3rd with a score of 68. Individually, Duluth Easts Phoebe Koski finished first with a time of 15:21. Proctors Hanna Bettendorf finished 2nd with a time of 15:29 and teammate Annika Voss finished in 15:37. Kelly Canavan from Duluth East placed 4th with a time of 15:51 and Carlton’s Erika Fox placed 5th finishing in 16:09.
