Esko Wins in Season Opener

HERMANTOWN, Minn—The Esko Eskomos Volleyball team started out slow, but came back to beat the Hawks in Hermantown 3-1 in last nights season opener.

Hermantown took the first game 25-16, but after that it was all Esko. The Eskomos won the next three 25-15, 25-19, and 25-22.

Esko was led offensively by Senior Molly Trap who recorded 16 kills and 9 Blocks, followed by Junior Karinne Houser with 9 Kills. Junior Setter Gianna Jubie also had a notable night recording 32 Set Assists and 8 Ace Serves.

Defensively Sophomore Judy Wagemaker led the Eskomos with 11 Digs and 9 Blocks, and Junior Mary Pelletier added 8 Digs.

Hermantown was led offensively by Junior Hailey Menzel. Menzel led all hitters with 17 Kills. Setters Sophomore Jordyn Thomas ended the night with 29 Set Assists and 10 Kills, and Junior Setter Cassidy Kaneski added 30 Set Assists.

The Esko Eskomos start off the season 1-0. They will take on Hibbing at home tomorrow night. Hermantown falls to 1-1 (win over the Marshall Hilltoppers last week.) and will play next at Duluth East on September 2nd. Game times are 7 PM.
