Brian Moores continued with his success this 2014 golf season around the Twin Ports as Brian picked up his second victory this summer with a four shot victory in the Lakeview Medal at Lester Park Golf Course in Duluth.

Moores who started Sunday in the final foursome was one shot back entering Sundays final round which featured 27 holes of golf. Matt Smith was the overnight leader with a 1 shot lead over four golfers including Moores.

Moores along with Smith, Dan Moline and Alex Kolquist made up the final group with all three chasing Smith. Moores opened up the day shooting a 35 on the front nine.

The Lake nine came next which he shot a 37, and he followed it up with a 35 on the back nine which gave Moores the Championship. One of the highlights for Moores was a chip in birdie from the bunker on the 11th hole on the back nine which was his 20th hole of the day.

2014 MGD Lakeview Champ

Moores told Northland Sports Online, “My favorite course is any I can win on,” and Moores has established his success on most of the local course in the area. Brain won the Bill Law Invitational at Nemadji in July, and had a second place finish at the Cloquet Invitational a week later.

Moores also played well in both the Arrowhead Invitational and at Northland as he lost in the semi finals to Dan Moline at Ridgeview and to Taylor Sundbom at Northland. Moores also recorded a 5th place finish in the Hayward open and was 10th in the Reider Lund at Enger Park in June.

Moores who lives in Rodgers Minnesota said “I like to play the events around the Duluth area, as most of the events are weekend based, and many of the events in the twin cities and the MGA are held during the week and conflicts with my work.”

“I like to play the Duluth area tournaments which are individual tournaments, and I also enjoy playing around Duluth as my wife and son get to hang out with family” Moores mentioned, he also went on to say “I have to thank my wife and family for allowing me the ability to play in these tournaments, as I wouldn’t be able too without their support.”

Moores will play a few more times in the Duluth area as he will play in the Leo Spooner best ball tournament at Northland Country Club with his father in law Kevin Noreen, and also he will pair with Noreen in the Hank Jensen Memorial Fundraiser at Enger Park.

Moores finished with a two day total of 177 to finish first four strokes ahead of Matt Smith who placed second with a total of 181. Dan Moline was third with a 182, Matt Mellin was fourth with a 183, and it was Reed Kolquist and Taylor Sundbom both posting 184 for a fifth place tie.

Northland Sports Online would like to congratulate Brian on a fine win Sunday in the Lakeview Medal Tournament at Lester Park!
