SIJHL names Bryan Graham commissioner

THUNDER BAY, Ont. –  The Superior International Junior Hockey League announced Tuesday that they have named Bryan Graham as their new commissioner, effective immediately.

The Thunder Bay native brings a wealth of hockey, sports and broadcasting related experience to his new position.

A long-time offical, Graham refereed hundreds of games over the years, including multiple Game 7s at the junior, senior and professional levels, both locally in the region as well as in the Central Hockey League and ECHL.

Following his retirement as a referee he was hired by the ECHL where he served as their Vice President and Director of Officiating for five seasons.

Switching sports Graham returned to the Lakehead where he joined the Thunder Bay Border Cats of the Northwoods Baseball League as their assistant general manager.

Add in being a former Sports Director on local radio previously as well as currently acting as the News/Sports Anchor and morning show co-host on Country 105FM in Thunder Bay, he’ll use all of his experiences moving over to the SIJHL.

“It’s an exciting time for me and I am really looking forward to the opportunity,” stated Graham.

“The SIJHL has made some positive inroads since its inception in 2001 and we as a league will look to build on the previous experiences and successes in continuing to make the SIJHL a viable Jr. A hockey option for our players, coaching staffs, fans and corporate partners,” he added.

Graham takes over for Ron Whitehead who served as SIJHL President/Commissioner for most of its 14-year history.

The SIJHL would like to thank Ron for his tireless efforts in working on behalf of the league and wish him well in all future endeavours.

More information on the SIJHL, including the 2014-15 regular season schedule, will be released in the coming days.
