Saints Sweep The Vikings

The St. Scholastica Saints improve their winning streak to 5 with a double header win over the Vikings from Bethany Lutheran on Saturday. The Saints would take the first game 6-2 and would win the second matchup of the day, 7-1.

The Saints fell behind early, 2-1 but that wouldn’t stop them as they would score 2 runs in the 5th inning to gain the 3-2 advantage. The Saints wouldn’t stop there as they busted the close game open with a 3 run 7th inning which ensured them the 6-2 victory.

Tyler Henderson led the way, going 3-5 while driving in 2 runs. Parker Olson and Brian Minks would both go 2-5 in the win and Floodwood’s Trevor Bernsdorf would go 1-4 but drove in 2 key runs in the victory. Sean Imes would record the win, pitching 1.2 innings while striking out 2. Cloquet’s Thomas Rogers recorded his 3rd save of the season, pitching the final 3 innings of the game, only allowing 1 hit while striking out 6.

In game two, Bernsdorf would lead the way to the 7-1 victory. Bernsdorf got the offense started early driving in the first run of the game on a sacrifice fly to right field which scored 1. In the 7th, Bernsdorf would double out to left and drive in another run to give the Saints the 3-0 lead. Going into the 9th inning, the Saints held the 3-1 advantage before bursting out to a 4 run inning which would seal the deal for the Saints.

Bernsdorf went 4-4 in the game, driving in 2 runs, and stealing 2 bases. Tyler Deux would go 1-3 with 2 RBI’s and Jordan Risse went 2-5 while driving in 1 run and scoring 2. Freshman Sam Sorenson recorded his first collegiate victory going 7 innings, allowing 3 hits, walking 3, while striking out 9. Duluth East’s Zach Farmer would record his first save of the year pitching shutout innings and striking out 3.

The Saints improve to 15-10 on the season and 7-1 in the UMAC. They will travel to play the University of Northwestern on Tuesday and Wednesday for a three game series. The first game will be on Tuesday with a first pitch of 3 PM
