League confirms records for Braham’s Rebekah Dahlman

The Minnesota State High School League has now certified Rebekah Dahlman as the state’s career basketball scoring leader for both girls and boys with the 5,060 points she scored during her six years (2007-2013) at Braham High School.

Several sources outside of the League, as well as most media, recognized her achievement immediately following Braham’s appearance in the 2013 State Girls’ Basketball Tournament in which the Bombers finished as runners-up. She was even recognized by the League with a game ball at the time as the unofficial record holder.

In April 2013 League staff requested documentation to substantiate Dahlman’s record. That documentation was not provided until April of this year. As a result, during the 2014 State Girls’ Basketball Tournament Carlie Wagner of New Richland-H-E-G was recognized by the League as the unofficial career scoring leader with her 3,982 points. League staff is currently working with New Richland-H-E-G school officials to document Wagner’s career scoring, as well as other potential records.

“During the 2014 state tournament I could not confirm Rebekah Dahlman’s career scoring total because the school had not provided the required documentation,” explained Howard W. Voigt, director of information for the League and who oversees athletic performance records. “Therefore, just as was done the previous year for Dahlman, the League unofficially recognized Carlie Wagner as the career scoring leader, pending proper documentation.”

Should Wagner’s points total stand following a review of her season statistics, she would become the No. 2 player on the girls’ career scoring list, and the total would also surpass the record for boys.

A comprehensive review of statistics now provided by Braham Activities Director and Head Girls’ Basketball Coach Tim Malone has verified Rebekah Dahlman as the state girls’ basketball record holder in 15 categories: two single-game records, five season records, six career records, and two state tournament records (details follow on the next page).
