2014 Softball Preview

The weather is beginning to warm up which begins to get everyone excited for Spring sports.

For softball this season, Section 7A looks to be strong, with the Carlton Bulldogs looking like a front runner in Section 7A after going 11-3 last year. The Bulldogs return a large portion of their starting roster from last season which included Myranda Papesh, Grace Macor, Jessica Stanslanski, Caylee Jones, Brianna Walton, and Hannah Benson. Also looking strong in Class A is the Barnum Bombers who went 8-7 last season. The Bombers have 6 seniors on the roster including Daron Mainville, Lauren Hultgren, Olivia Angell, and Kerra Rowell.

In Class AA, the Hermantown Hawks and Cloquet Lady Lumberjacks look to have strong seasons. The Hawks went 22-4 last season while taking 3rd place at State. The Hawks return seniors Allison Samberg and Macy Francisco and juniors Ashley Irwin, Brooke Dahlin, and Jillayne Gilbert. The Lady Jacks will be senior heavy after going 12-6 last season. The seniors include Kristi Anderson, Breanne Baker, Sammy Zeadow, Katrina Smith, and Chandler Beaupre.

The team to watch out for in the area in Class AAA is the Duluth Denfeld Hunters who are coming off a 16-3 season. The Hunters will return seniors Ciarra Taipale, Geena Meger, Lexi Hill, and Alexia Klaas.

Other teams to keep an eye on are the Esko Eskomos, Silver Bay Mariners, and Duluth East Greyhounds.
