Border Battle: Wisconsin Girls Edge Minnesota

The Minnesota girls All-Stars and Wisconsin girls All-Stars went into battle on Tuesday night to see who would maintain the bragging rights for the next year. In a game that saw an overtime period, it was the Wisconsin All-Stars who edged out the Minnesota team in a defensive game, 78-76.

Minnesota was represented by MIB’s Allie Knuti and Sarah Overbye; Mia Anderson and Hannah Johnson from Duluth East; Daron Mainville representing Barnum; Abby Hawkinson from McGregor; Emily Neumann from  Hermantown; North Woods Darby Youngstrom and Destinie Villebrun; and Lexi Hill from Duluth Denfeld.

Hailey Kontny represented Superior in the matchup.

It was a 39-35 game at halftime in favor of the Wisconsin All-Stars. In the second half, the Minnesota All-Stars battled back to out score Wisconsin 39-35. In the overtime, Wisconsin would get the best of Minnesota as they would outscore them 4-2 to win the matchup.

Leading Minnesota in the game was Darby Youngstrom with 22 points. She was also named the games MVP. Following Youngstrom was Daron Mainville with 13, Mia Anderson notching 10, Abby Hawkinson and Destini Villebrun each tallying 7, Hannah Johnson adding 6, Lexi Hill scoring 4, Emily Neumann hitting 3, and Sarah Overbye and Allie Knuti both scoring 2.

Superiors Hailey Kontny lead the Wisconsin team with 19 points in the win. Lauren Novak followed with 15, Afton Kuehndorf pitched in 11, and Mallie Doucette hit double digits with 10. Also scoring was Breanna Steen with 6, Kayla Hanley notching 5, Meg Elias adding 4, Britnee Zuck and Hailey Seifert both with 3, and Janice Anderson topping it off with 1.
