Minnesota Boys Top Wisconsin In Border Battle

The Minnesota All-Stars and Wisconsin All-Stars matched up at UMD’s Romano Gym last night. Not only was it a night of showcasing the best talent in the area, it was also legendary coach, Bob McDonalds final game coaching. The game would go into OT, but McDonald and the Minnesota All-Stars left with a bang, winning 120-115.

The Minnesota All-Stars were represented by Trevontae Brown from Fond du Lac Ojibwe; Tyler Jerkovich representing Hibbing; Sam Johnson from Mora; Marc Peterson, Casey Staniger, and Kory Deadrick from Esko; LCA’s Bjorn Broman;  Alex Illikainen from Grand Rapids; Hermantown’s Kole Zuidmulder; and Adam Laine from Cloquet.

Carter Anderson from Superior represented Wisconsin.

The Minnesota All-Stars trailed 53-42 at half, but went on to outscore the Wisconsin All-Stars in the 2nd half 56-45 to send it into overtime. In the overtime, the Minnesota All-Stars would score 22 points and held the Wisconsin All-Stars to 17 to secure the win.

The Minnesota team was led by Sam Johnson who had 27 points including 6 from three. Kory Deadrick followed with 19 points with 15 coming from downtown. Alex Illikainen scored 17 points, Casey Staniger knocked down 15, Adam Laine and Trevontae Brown each had 12 points, Kole Zuidmulder notched 11, and Tyler Jerkovich had 6.

Superiors Carter Anderson had 6 points. Also for Wisconsin was Donald Gordon III with 27 points, all coming from distance as he knocked down 9 triples. Thomas Whiting had 18 points, Luke Murphy notched 16, Brandyn Christman had 13, Joe Starks added 9, Mitchell Reinthaler pitched in 8, Daniel Gengenbach and Josh Weix both had 6, and Luke Stanley topped it off with 4 points.
