It was no mirage that the goal judge’s red light lit four times for the Mirage of Proctor/Hermantown. Their 4-1 win over the Cardinals of Alexandria earned them the Class A consolation title.

It is the second piece of hardware for the cooperative program in only the second tournament appearance for the team. In 2010, when Marshall School of Duluth was also part of the co-op, the team earned second place. Proctor/Hermantown scored first on a power play in the first period.

Sophomore Sophie McGovern scored her second goal of the tournament with assists from senior Reilly Fawcett and ninth-grader Abby Halverson. It wasn’t until the third period that Alexandria tied the score on junior Nicole Bartels’ second goal of the tournament, also on a power play. But before the clock expired, Proctor/Hermantown scored three more times.

McGovern scored again unassisted, sophomore Brielle Larson also scored unassisted, and Fawcett earned an empty-net goal. Senior goaltender Kylie Hommerding earned the win and made 18 saves. The Mirage finishes the season 20-10-0 and the Cardinals, playing in their second consecutive and ninth overall tournament, finish with a 15-13-1 record.

McGovern was also named to the Class A all tournament team for 2014.
